ABASE (verb) 

 tr.v. a·based, a·bas·ing, a·bas·es 

Meaning 

  • To lower in rank, prestige, or esteem, to humiliate.
  • To humble or belittle (oneself, etc.) 
  • Behave in a way so as to belittle or degrade (someone).


Synonyms

Antonyms 

  • dignify, honor, respect. 


Usage 

  •  He felt abased when his clothes were removed.
  • He humiliated his colleague by criticising him in front of the boss.
